Well, I haven't raced a half marathon in about 3 years.  I am not in great shape, but I wanted to use this race as a guage to see where I'm at as I get ready for St. George.  My goal was to finish under 1:30:00, so my goal was accomplished. However, it is hard to see where my running is at right now because I compare it to where I was just 2-3 years ago. Injuries, and age to a certain extent, have taken a toll on me over the last year and a half, but hopefully I can put together some solid training as I gear up for the marathon. Go figure, but putting in mileage makes a huge difference.

All considered, the race today went pretty well.  Splits were: 6:30, 38, 38, 38, 38, 35, 39, 51, 34, 7:01, 6:52, 59, 7:12, 7:28 pace for the last stretch.  I stayed pretty conservative from the beginning and my body held up well until around miles 9-10.  Then my legs got a bit heavy and when it flattened out on the parade route I just didn't have much left. Running down the canyon was great.  I also enjoyed the stretch down South Temple.  I'm sure my legs will be destroyed for a couple days, so I'm looking forward to spending some time swimming and hopefully I'll be good to go by the end of the week.

Hi Allie. Thanks. Yeah, I read your report and found some similarities. Nice job to you though. Way to tough it out. I imagine coming from Georgia has got to be tough. My legs are destroyed right now, which is kind of sad.

At 37 it's not age. Injury and training consistency are the culprits. If you stay healthy and can train as consistently as you once did, you can still run times close to your best.

Hey Rob - I agree, but age is a great excuse. You and many others have shown me I could run as fast or faster now than I did a couple years ago. It is demoralizing when it feels like your body doesn't cooperate though. Nice job on your race on Monday.
